Is The Aircrafts GPS Tracking Efficient?

GPS tracking means Global Positioning System. The use of GPS tracking systems is so widespread nowadays. People use GPS tracking for vehicles like cars, buses, etc., and electronic devices like mobile phones. So the use of GPS tracking systems in aircraft is done for efficiency and to increase safety. GPS tracking of airplanes is how we can know the aircraft’s position in the GPS server. In the server, the data is stored. The stored data can be transmitted through telecommunication networks for organizations who are interested to know about it.

Importance of GPS Tracking

A global tracking system (GPS) is advantageous. It helps in knowing the exact position of the aircraft. GPS also tracks the movement of aircraft throughout the campaign or transportation. With the help of a GPS server, the receiver can know about the speed of the plane. The receiver can learn about the remaining distance of the route and can determine the minimum time to cover up the journey by the aircraft. GPS servers give the live tracking information like the live movement, speed and distance remained. It has no limitations. It can be operated 24*7. The GPS server phase measurements give accuracy between 5 m to 20 m.

Why GPS Tracking Is Necessary

The use of GPS, i.e., Global Positioning System in aircraft, is standard and used worldwide. GPS is used to know the particular position or location of the aircraft. GPS has fantastic features for which it is known and used by people all over the world. The use of GPS tracking provides certain benefits that are listed below-

  • Safety- With the use of a GPS tracking system, the safety and security of the aircraft are increased and secured. It gives safety to the life of the persons sitting inside the aircraft.
  • Position – GPS provides the actual positioning history to the receiver. It helps to track all the records of the aircraft as well its movement from departure to arrival or maybe vice versa.
  • Reduced delays- The tracking through GPS decreases the chances of delay due to its capacity of aircraft management. The capacity of GPS in aircraft management, mainly during different weather, is much more beneficial and helps in proper tracking of the route.
  • Less cost- GPS server has all the aircraft information which can be passed to the receiver via telecommunication networks at free of cost. There is absolutely no cost for passing the information to the interested receiver.

Improved with technology

  • 1973-GPS tracking was first introduced in the year 1973. The United States Department of Defense launched it. It was launched to deal with the limitations of some other navigation or tracking systems.
  • 1978- Developers launched the first experimental block-I GPS satellite in the year 1978.
  • 1985-In the year 1985, more than ten experimental block-I was introduced.
  • 1989-The first modern Block-II satellite was introduced by experts on 14th February 1989.
  • 1994- The GPS achieved all the operation capability of 24 satellites was in movement by 17th January 1994.
  • 2000- On 2nd May 2000, the selective availability was discontinued by people by providing users outside the US military, who got full quality signal.
  • 2006- On 17th November, people in the aircraft sector introduced the most recent one.

With time, the features and flexibility of the operation of GPS Tracking systems are evolved and improvised with the technology. The parts were made easier to use to meet up the requirements of its intended users or receivers. The use of GPS Tracking systems in aviators worldwide has ensured the safety and security of people as a result in causing a decrease in delays by accurately posting an accurate routing. The United States authority is contemplating forward to introducing a new era of GPS satellite block-III. With the passage of years, portable GPS Tracking is much easier. GPS tracking has been affordable by all most people. Nowadays, the GPS Trackers that are available in the market are light in weight. It has many more features and capabilities, and those are improving with time.

The best thing for the aviators is that GPS is constantly developing and modernizing. Two new signals are added. The first signal is for everyday use of non-safety critical applications, and the second one is for international protection and safety. The second signal will give certain benefits which are beyond the capabilities of the current GPS services. By the features and benefits provided by GPS Tracking systems, the chances of air accidents can be reduced by the parts as it gives navigation constantly. So basically, the number of air accidents has decreased. GPS helps get clear routes, fuel conservation and saves time by more continuous and accurate information. It also ensures a high level of safety and security. As the exact information is available to pilots by GPS, it takes less time to reach the destination.

Limitations of GPS tracking

GPS tracking system has enormous best features for aircraft, but it has certain disadvantages also, which cannot be ignored. The workings of GPS Servers depend upon signals that are received. It is crucial to receive alerts from all four servers. Even if the signs are accepted from 2 or 3 calls, the rider will not know the positioning perfectly. Certain factors can hinder getting proper signals, such as poor weather and storms. GPS servers give instructions in audio form. This part can distract the pilot sometimes and deviate them from nature and disturb them. GPS may cause a problem if there is a signal failure or low battery at times.

Conclusion

The implemented use of GPS tracking systems has increased safety in all manners. Previously there was more number of air accidents which we get to know through media. But Global Positioning System has helped in decreasing the number of air accidents. With the developed feature, it helped in consuming fuel and saving time and money. It also has certain drawbacks or limitations. Apart from constraints, the GPS tracking system of aircraft is more than efficient and has enhanced the aircraft positioning and helped get proper safety.
